Source: Crawfordsville Weekly News-Review 2-16-1901 p 5

Mrs. Whillie Beard Engle, the widow of Bennett W. Engle died at 3 o’clock Tuesday at her home in Englewood after an illness of one week. She had been in delicate health for several years but pneumonia resulting from an attack of grip was the immediate cause of her death. Mrs Engle was the daughter of John Bear, who in the earlier days was one of the most prominent citizens of the city and state. He was an influential member for years of the state legislature and a man of such popularity that he was never beaten for office. The deceased was born at the old Beard home place but a short distance from where she died March 31, 1835.  She was married Sept 13, 1854 to Bennett Engle, who was connected with Elston’s bank until his death a few years ago.  Of four children that blessed the union three are living, Ellis at Little Rock, Ark; Mrs. Mary Washburn of New Richmond and Bennett W of this city. Mrs. Engle has been a faithful member of the Episcopal church and woman of strong Christian character. Her many noble and charitable traits endeared her to a wide circle of acquaintances and her death occasions wide spread and profound sorrow.
